The Roding, Chigwell
A series of bespoke staircases in solid walnut defines this multi-level home, bringing warmth, depth, and architectural rhythm across its spaces. The principal double-height feature is formed by two elegantly stacked curved stair runs, aligned to enhance the vertical flow of the interior and create a striking sense of continuity. Elsewhere within the property, additional straight staircases extend the same design language, balancing everyday function with sculptural presence.
Crafted entirely in solid walnut and finished in a clear lacquer, each staircase showcases the natural richness and grain of the timber while maintaining a refined contemporary appearance. Solid walnut treads, handrails, and laterals create a seamless visual connection throughout the home, reinforcing consistency in both material and craftsmanship.
Custom metal spindles, professionally finished in a dark antique coating, introduce depth and contrast against the warmth of the walnut. The combination of curved forms, clean lines, and carefully considered proportions allows each staircase to feel both substantial and visually light within the surrounding interior architecture.
Subtle integrated lighting further enhances the detailing and atmosphere of the installation, highlighting the flowing geometry and natural character of the materials. From the precision of the curved joinery work to the continuity between all four staircases, every element was carefully designed and manufactured to create a unified architectural statement.
